I have been using ClarkConnect and now ClearOS, for 4 years. I install for a server company and a vast majority of cybercafes. The stability of the system impressed me, I have almost never had a problem since the first installation. Their Open Source license management is one of rapid progress since the system changed its name to ClearOS. Configuration via webconfig is extremely easy which is a good breakthrough in linux server solutions. ClearCenter also provides Dynamic DNS features, which greatly facilitates to the management of the server that I handle. I used to use it for Dynamic VPN, Web server, FTP server and Mail server. I've used ClearOS for years. I started off with Microsoft SBS and got tired of patching and praying that my gateway will not get hacked. Every release I've used has been stable for enough for production use and invisible enough for home use. I no longer worry about being hacked, since there is intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, and automatic updates. I really like one of the more recent features of automatic offsite backups, that really came in handy when our office was broke into. I started off using version 2 and I can't wait till 6 comes out. Since my ClearOS post from two years ago has been still generating traffic, I thought I would do a follow-up now. For anyone who doesn’t know, ClearOS is a network, gateway, and server platform. It is a culmination of a lot of projects, most noted would be that is it based in part on CentOS. With such a firm server foundation it is easy to see how they have created such an enjoyable system. After installation I was greeted by a clean post-installation-settings page which cleared up some of the other settings (language, network, timezone, etc). Following that I was presented with this amazing administration screen…ClearOS definitely made me feel like I was living in 2011. Servers should present admins with a please, clean-cut administration panel. And this operating system did that and more! I hope this Linux distro will be adopted by more web admins everywhere to better the web by making graphical servers the new black. Absolutely no problems recommending the product. We use it for a school and a home and we love it. The school had no prior firewall, and was spending a fortune on all kinds of different solutions to accomplish one task. I happened to come across ClearOS (formerly ClarkConnect). Tried it at home and thought that it was Great! At a reasonable cost I was able to provide a complete solution for the school. There are 90 workstations on a ClearOS (formerly ClarkConnect) box running just a simple single core processor with a single gig of memory. You can't ask for that.
