hey all, So about a year ago i started looking to ClearOS for a replacement for MS SBS2011.
Since then i have been a little busy and never really got that far with this. I am starting to look back into it again and would like some questions answered first if possible.
Basically I look after sites with around 10 users. I already have an idea of the licensing model I will require (I am looking at ClearOS pro and Zarafa Small Business) but what would like to know is:
1. Ease of creating new user with mailbox and standard alias configuration.
2. Ability to receive mail for 2 or more domains
3. Ability to respond to email using alias from another domain. (in exchange is setup 2 users and give full rights to each user and show as second mailbox i Outlook)
4. Full Outlook and mobile integration (iphone, android, and windows)
5. Print server functionality (I have never yet managed to get CUPS to work)
6 AD like folder security.
Can all of the above be done in a relatively simple interface?
Main objectives are the mail related ones.
Thanks in advance.
Mark.
Mods, feel free to move this message if in the wrong section.

I thought I would keep this going as a place for me to reference back to as well as to help other users.
Today I "chucked a wobbly" with Hyper-v and decided to migrate everything over to ESXi.
So first up i had to get the VMs out from my test server. In doing this I moved them to my laptop and fired them up in Hyper-V on there.
No Network card bound... :-(
After a bit of Googling, I came across the below link.
http://superuser.com/questions/332593/how-do-you-automatically-detect-a-new-network-card-in-centos-6-redhat
"Go into /etc/udev/rules.d and delete the 70-persistent-net.rules" (Ii renamed the file instead)
no MAC Address (HWADDR) listed in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 so no need to delete
type "start_udev"
the type "service network restart"
on restart i got some error about answer already exists.
run ifdown eth0 then ifup eth0 and it went away.
Reboot server and watch boot process (alt+D on splash screen) and when all is happy I proceeded from there to migrate to ESXi using VM Convertor and then redoing the same as above all over again .. :-)
Hope this helps somone else. -

Mark,
Sounds as if domain aliases for your case will work just fine. It breaks when:
joe@company1.com
and
joe@company2.com
are different users who should not have access to each other's mail.
This isn't the case for you.
As for sending as aliases, when logged into Zarafa Webmail as a user, click on "Settings" at the bottom right and click on the "Compose Email" Tab. From that page, you'll see a section 'From Email Addresses' where a user can add their alternate domains, so that when sending, they can change their "From" profile.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for the response. I was looking to use ClearOS Pro and Zarafa Small Business anyway so this will allow seamless integration with Outlook from what i have read.
I am unsure of the Virtual Domains page.
Is it saying that I can receive for whatever domains I have coming in but I cannot send email as another domain?
Currently what I do is setup 2 users.
Let's say user is named Bob Smith
username = bsmith password = password email address = bob@example.com (this is his primary account and what he logs into Windows with)
username = bobsmith password = password email address = bob@example.net
You can see that the username is different so this makes AD happy.
In Outlook you can add multiple exchange accounts so i setup Outlook to use bsmith and then add user's mailbox for bobsmith and allow to SEND AS bobsmith. Then in From field I choose bobsmith and email leaves as bob@example.net.
Does this make sense and can this be done?
Thanks again in advance. -

Mark,
Welcome back...fairly modest list there..here are the caveats:
RE: 2 - Virtual Domains. Depends on your definition. Have a read here.
RE: 4 - Full Outlook Support. Only the Professional Edition's Zarafa Small Business Version provides support for MAPI so Outlook can talk natively to the server. The Zarafa Community Edition that Tim Burgess provides does not have this functionality...although you can manually hack it in for up to 3 users.
RE: 6 - AD Folder Like Security. On our roadmap for version 7 to implement file ACL. For now, Flexshare file shares are limited to owner/group RW (eg. Unix file permissions only). -
