It's been a few days since I'm testing this fantastic distribution to use with my Microserver Gen8, I tried on virtual machine and the only problems I found were with Samba, I could not start it, remains in loop the message "Initialization may take a minute or two, please be patient. " I thought that the problem depended on the virtual machine so I decided to install the distro directly on ssd, installed the Home version but in spite of me the problem remains, I'm wrong or something is a problem? I also tried to delete the Lock file but nothing.

Hi Andrea,
If you've got ClearOS set up in gateway mode, when you come to initialise Windows Networking you need to make sure you have something connected to the LAN network interface. This caught me out a couple of times in the past, when on a new build I was accessing the WebConfig via the WAN interface, and had nothing connected to the LAN. Windows networking will sit indefinitely trying to initialise, the moment you connect say a network switch to the LAN interface, initialisation will instantly complete.
Hope this helps.
Cheers...... Andy

Hi Nick, after several attempts I found I think I found the problem, practically setting clearOS in gateway mode with active firewall there is no way to enable the samba service OpenLDAP, going in standalone mode -no firewall samba has started without problems . what can this depend on? I need to be protected by the firewall -

I've tried searching the forums and my memory but got nowhere so we'll have to try some basic troubleshooting.
Can you have a look in /var/log/messages for any errors? The same goes for any log files under /var/log/samba?
As it is a one off process I'd need to to a complete reinstall to get to where you are. What do you need to enter on the Windows Networking screen before you initialise? I know you have to choose a winadmin password. Can you keep it simple. You can change it later. Is there anything else you need to set on the screen first.
Do the files /var/clearos/samba/initialized_openldap and /var/clearos/samba_common/initialized exist?
Is LDAP running ("service slapd status")?
Hi Nick

Hi Andrea,
Welcome to ClearOS.
I've split your post out into a separate thread. We need to keep the other thread clean as it is a substantial issue.
I have seen this issue before and I can't remember where the solution is.
Please can you check that you have initialised the Directory Server (choose OpenLDAP unless you have a good reason not to, like you want the AD Connector). You may get forced to do it if you try to add a user.
Also please check you have created a system certificate (Webconfig > System > Settings > Certificate Manager)
