Hi guys...im new to this forum and i joined cause i think i will find my answers in here.

so i have a company network, we have 5 servers in there, one of them is a windows 2016 AD/DC, DNS

when im in the network and ping the server names they respond back just fine.....now...

i have the latest version of ClearOS with PPTP server installed and users created.....i connect without issues and i can ping my internal network ips without any problems. So i can say that the tunneling is working just fine.

Now, when i ping a computer name it doesnt respond....

but when i ping the hostname, like computername.domain.local ir responds back

here is the setup:

AD/DC DNS 192.168.0.2

ClearOS: 192.168.0.10

Local IP Range 192.168.0.2-89

Remote IP Range 192.168.0.90-150

the firewall is off

thank in advance

I googled a bit with mixed results. There were a couple of ideas. One was to give the PPTP adaptor IP settings a WINS server pointing to your remote WINS server (the DC?). The other was not to use a split tunnel and force all traffic through the VPN.

    Solution:

for our convenience we created an A record in a webserver to resolve to a url as a hostname, Wrong idea.....

the vpn client was dialing the url and not the direct public ip, in result the netbios waby dialing directly the publick ip we were able to ping the netbios names in the local network from the remote clients.

I don't think it is possible to use NetBIOS names over a VPN. superuser.com answer.
