Is this forum monitored by a ClearVM expert?

I really like to test this software and learn from it but I have problems with the NICS as you read in my other post.

Is this issue already solved?

I really want to try ClearVM on my Supermicro A1SAM-2750F. It uses C2000 SoC I354 Quad GbE controllers. If I'm correct ClearVM (Debian Weezy) is not supporting these controllers. The drivers are available in the backport repo of Wheezy.

Marcel, We plan to update the version of Debian, however for now this is a limitation as it relates to drivers. If you find other NIC's we are happy to provide you with a lifetime ClearVM account, as you have been such an active and loyal ClearOS user over the years. NOTE: Will advise when the underlying version/code gets updated, which we currently do not have on the active Roadmap or an ETA :( Wish we were able to provide better direction here... looking for more resources. :)

Is was just checking the messages on the screenshot I posted. It says "Alert /dev/disk/by-label/WITSBITS does not exist" So it searching for a USB stick with that label. I didn't noticed this before. I did remotely uploaded the Witsbits image to the server. You can see that on the screenshot I posted. I also tried a couple of times creating the USB stick with Rufus. I now realize that Rufus is not the correct tool to use with WitsBits / ClearVM. You have to use "WINDISKIMAGER". :o

I'm going to write the ISO with WinDiskImager and report back.

@Michael, ClearVM is a bit of frustrating experience at the moment at least for me (Okay, I admit also due user error...). :o

I bought a new NIC a Intel Gigabit Desktop Adapter to test. It was cheap and only needed for the time that ClearVM is not supporting my NIC's.

For some weird reason ClearVM gives me a error while booting. See screenshot.

@Marcel, How is your testing of ClearVM coming along? Were you able to get over the NIC issue?

Good to hear that ClearVM gets a update. Is this driver issue not a big problem at the moment? I did a round on the web to find Intel nic's supported by Debian Wheezy but a lot of nic's in the webshops are to new. I can imagine that a lot of servers sold now use these nic's.

    Not founded yet.

    Thank you!

@Michael, Plan changed. I had a good conversation with ICT guy. He advice to centralize storage and work with virtualization. I already own a Synology RS2414+ so this becomes my main storage server. Then ClearVM for virtualization and in future also docker. Of course ClearOS as VM and lots of possibilities to test VM's. Do you know which NIC is supported by ClearVM? Maybe I need a card with a few ports. Men I'm excited..., I have also Nick script working to block counties on certain ports that are accessible from they internet.., with help from Nick :)

    [edit]
Is the Intel i350T2 nic supported?
    [/edit]

    [edit]
This card uses the igb drivers.
    [/edit]

    [edit]
I'm not sure which Intel card to use. I think all new intel nic's have issues with Debian Wheezy.

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for the kind words.

Indeed a driver issue. I think I have to wait then and maybe it's to early to test now. A other matter with ClearVM is the storage possibilities. I'm not sure if it works for me. I understood that Clearcenter intent to add ZFS. In my opinion ZFS is a expensive technology for home users. You have to create a pool with a bunch of hdd's. So you have to buy 4-5 hdd's at once. I rather expand my pool every time with one hdd. If I'm correct BTRFS is supporting this. On the otherhand ClearVM is not a product for home users.., Maybe a bit for geeks :)

First the release of ClearOS 7.1 also exciting times!
