Tried setting up NordVPN using this tutorial:
https://nordvpn.com/tutorials/linux/openvpn/
On step 12, after credential input, the connection (my workstation) stops and will not ping anything.
I am using their DNS servers:
209.18.47.62
209.18.47.61
I've tried it with OpenVPN service stopped and running

I presume for ClearOS you are substituting "yum" for "apt-get"?
It is impossible to see from those instructions to see what is being installed. Normally you'd try starting OpenVPN with a systend command like "systemctl start openvpn@ovpn_udp/us842.nordvpn.com.udp.ovpn"
The real problem I have is that the instructions are probably for a standalone instance of Linux rather than a Linux router so I have no idea how it would route packets. ClearOS does have an ibVPN app available which sorts this out, but it is for a different provider.

i've actually been trying something similar....
my goal was to use obfuscated servers though to access Netflix... (so using standard openvpn doesn't work for that)
i followed this guide:
https://support.nordvpn.com/Connectivity/Linux/1325529362/Installing-and-using-NordVPN-on-RHEL-and-CentOS-Linux.htm
after connecting to nordvpn, i can ping sites from the ssh terminal... and after whitelisting my bridged LAN ports... i can access the web interface....
for some reason the internet connection does not pass to the LAN though when connected through the nordvpn linux app
i'm still trying to figure out whats blocking that from reaching the LAN, as the web interface has internet access...
