I have ClearOS 7.5 community edition in Gateway mode. Everything seems to work fine.
I have not done anything with firewall settings.
Do I have to enable the firewall protection on my own or I have the basic protection already enabled by default?
If the firewall to WAN side protected already, do I have to worry and harden it or I can feel secure with ClearOS's default setup?

The firewall only really operates on the WAN interface, so, from your LAN just use https://192.168.4.1:81.

So, if I close the webconfig port 8, how would I access the router from LAN? Can I just access using https://192.168.4.1 for example? -

The default firewall is good. The only thing I'd definitely do is close the Webconfig port if you don't need it. Opening an closing ports only affects connections from the internet and not from the LAN as ClearOS is completely open to the LAN.
With the Community edition you can set up the Attack Detector. You can also use the IDS/IPS but its rules are old although they still do something. If you want better protection you can subscribe to the IDS updates.
I never like leaving SSH open and always use an OpenVPN connection if I want to access the server. Then I can access it as if I am connected to the LAN.
