Hi,

In earlier days I have happily used ClarConnect 3.x to 5.x series. The need for a useful file and mailserver arose here (home situation) so I decided to give ClearOs a try because of my experiences with CC in the past.

My situation is quite simple, just a homenetwork behind a cisco/linksys E1000 router. The cisco is dhcp server/firewall en NAT translator. Inside the homenetwork several devices are often logging on for network- and internet access.

So far so good. Now I have this 4GB, AMD athlon XP 64 machine. I installed CC on it (did not go well first time, had to increase shared memory for videocard (the nas which resides on it before did not need that, was just commandline). But the second time it installed OK. I gave it a static address outside the dhcp range.

On to the webinterface I could set several things.
But all of a sudden the entire network looses internet access. Looks just like the entire router is sucked up by clearOS. phones, pc's, everything wireless and wired is struck.

I need to investigate further (right now each time the internet falls off, half the house cries havoc ;-) ). At first I thought the evil one here was dnsmasq, but I am not definately sure. Also it seems like it happens each time I enter the marketplace.

Does anyone know what could cause this?

Do I really need this dnsmasq thing for just an nfs fileserver and a mailserver? I noticed that wehen I stop nfs, the web interface has problems with account- and serverside data from clearos?

Cheers, Eric

P.S. I did not know where to put this, so I placed it here. Feel free to move it to a more appropriate forum if desired.

    Hi,

    Thnx for the swift reply.
I installed COS comm. edition as "simple" server. Have only 1 Nic so gateway is not possible anyway. No extra apps installed (did not get there). During installation I already set a static IP (192.168.1.2) and OpenDNS servers as nameservers (www.opendns.com).

My cisco E1000 router (fw 2.1) has 192.168.1.1 and acts as gateway. I'm on the internet via fiber. The fibermodem passes the wan ip through to my router.

My dhcp server gives leases in the 192.168.1.100/150 range. When a device recieves data from this dhcp server, OpenDNS nameservers are also given.

Devices can connect to the cisco wired as well as wireless. Nat is turned on and only a few portforward rules are set, mainly for routing ssh requests from the internet to this server to allow me to log on. Also a few QoS rules are set, but not for this particular server (merely for gaming).

This already happens after a clean install so settings are, besides the above mentioned static IP, default COS. Before installing COS, Openmediavault ran fine for months on this server. Just felt like changing it because I wanted to do a bit more with the server than just being NAS.

Remarkable is that all devices loose internet capability at the same time. Connections are restored for a while when I reset the router.

Please tell me if you need anything more?

    Cheers

Hi Eric, no thats not normal behaviour...perhaps you have a network configuration conflict?

Perhaps a DNS or gateway config issue, this shouldnt be the case with a standlone install... perhaps a bit more info on your network config would help, subnets, ips etc

Some clues on your client network config would also help
