  • Move physical machine to ESXI without virtual hard drive

    Dear ClearOS community,

I am running ClearOS 7.8 Business on a dedicated server and want to move it to a ESXI machine. I do not intend to use the converter, because I simply want to start the server from ESXI and want to assign the current sata controller on the mainboard to the VM and run from the same hard drives I am running ClearOS from currently. I find many tutorials how to do that with Windows machines, but rarely with Linux.

Should this work as I described? How about the ClearOS subscription, will this get invalidated, because of hardware change?

    Thank you for the input.

    Best wishes,

    Robert

    Hi,

I am very interested in sia. Can someone tell me what the currency for the payments will be? Siacoin? Would be nice if it would be clear token.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Michael,

I might be more the "cautious" kind of guy, but I would recommend buying a used C2550 (or C2750) with ECC memory. I use a C2750 in a Fractal Design 304, which is on lowest fan speed very silent. The 304 is not very cheep though, but there are cheaper options. The C2750 does not produce a lot of heat (it is fan less itself) and does only need a bit of airflow in the case. Most of the time one does not need ECC memory, but just ask yourself if you can live with the possibility of loosing data or data corruption.

    Best wishes,

I am still a bit lost at this privacy setting part. What is this about? I registered my domain through clearcenter and I recently renewed through clearcenter and never got contacted by spammers about that topic.

Robert replied to a discussion, Security-Home Business email server?

    Hi,

I am probably somewhere inbetween. I use Zarafa/Kopano since years, but rely on an ISP provided email (with fetchmail/postfix). The reason for this is the backup problem in case somethings goes off like Nick mentioned (I do have a backup, but not a failover). To access Zarafa/Kopano I use the clearcenter domain/DNS offering Nick mentioned to have an address which is easily memorizable and does not look odd to other people. I did not have a break in into my mail account, but I cannot guaranty for any email provider.

  • Hello,

ClearOS works well for me all those years and I use it since the 5.1 times. What I always missed was a webaccess app to allow easy file sync between ClearOS machines. I know this can be done using rsync and so on, but a "push this button method" would be great. Especially, since ClearOS has a VPN app for site to site connections.

    Thanks.

    Dear Nick,

Since you mentioned you do not have it installed let me give you a quick overview. I took some screenshots for illustration and removed personal data, they are attached below.

As Dirk mentioned the webaccess location is: Server>Communication and Collaboration>Kopano Basic
What you can see there are in Figure Kopano Overview 1/2.
The license key must be put in (Figure Kopano License) to make everything work. According to my information there is only a "basic" key available right now.

Considering the backup at the bottom of the page, one can choose how often a backup should be taken (Figure Kopano Backup 1) and where is should be stored (Figure Kopano Backup 2). The default is /var/clearos/kopano_basic/backup/, but also Flexshare folders can be used (no subfolders). I am sure there is a possibility to put custom folders somewhere in a config/php file.
Nothing else needs to be done here considering the backup. Works out of the box.

Just one thing needs to be done, which is allowing users to use Kopano (under: System>Accounts>Users). I have a Kopano and Zarafa box I can activate for each user (Figure Account User Settings), but the Zarafa options are just a left over, since I used Zarafa since years before Kopano came up.

Please let me know if you have any questions and if I can help with the docu.

    Best wishes,

    Robert

    Dear Dirk,

Thank you very much. It is all fine now again. It just installed app-kopano-basic and app-kopano-basic-core.

My subscription is also shown in the webconfig again (I do not have the community version). The reason for the "test-server" version was an update to kopano 8.5.8 posted by Ben if I remember correctly (link). It could not be done over the normal updates, because it needed some hands on and is still just available over the "test-server" version. The reason why I wanted the webconfig setup back is that I like the recursive backup method built in kopano, which is easier to access through the webconfig. I additionally backup the database and attachments on a daily base for disaster recovery.

Thank you again. You helped me a lot.

    Best wishes,

    Robert

    Dear Dirk,

Thank you for your quick reply.

    yum list "*kopano*"

    gave me:

Looks like I do not have kopano-basic installed. Is it complementary to app-kopano and app-kopano-core? I also guess I need the version from the test repo.
