I am looking at getting a Wi-Fi adapter for my ClearOS box. Can anyone tell me what is compatible? I was thinking of ASUS PCE-AC68.

Hmm. It looks like the device PCI ID is 10ec:8812. If so, it is not yet supported by Elrepo/kmod and you'll have to use the supplied drivers if you can get them to work. I've no idea what the driver name will be (8812?).

You'll need to research if the adaptor can be used in access point (AP) mode.

All the statement says is here are the drivers compatible with the 3.16 kernel which is not much help as ClearOS 7.x only comes with the 3.12 kernel and 6.x with a 2.6.32 kernel. It does not mean the kernel does not support the card as RedHat may have back-ported drivers into it, however, my suspicion is that you'll still need to compile your own drivers.

If you can find out (Google) which driver is needed in Linux and the PCI ID of the card then we can see if it is directly supported in ClearOS and, if not, which drivers are needed.

"Support OS:Linux kernel 3.16" from the download section of the EW-7822PIC product page. Does that mean it will work with ClearOS as an external interface connected to a router with modem?

    Thanks for the reply.

I think I will go with a Wi-Fi router and two media bridges.

Generally it is considered much easier to use a dedicated WAP or router configured as WAP (fixed IP, LAN-LAN connection, DHCP disabled) than to use a wireless NIC. A WAP also makes aerial positioning much easier.

I've had a look at the adaptor and it is not supported natively in ClearOS. You'll need to compile the kmod wl drivers. The device uses closed source drivers and googling around it is not clear if the device can act as an Access Point so I've no idea how successful you'll be.
