Hi all,

6.4 on clearbox 300
ppp0 is connected to ADSL
eth0 is connected to Fibre

I want the default route to be the ppp0 connection. There are a few IP addresses that have rules defined for using eth0 for traffic requiring to go via that route, such as the IPSEC VPNs, but these have their own specified interface to use.

when I show the kernel routing table it shows eth0 as the default route.
I changed this (from memory, so name might not be accurate) in network-scripts/ifcfg ppp0 and set default =yes
I made sure that the default was not sat on the route-eth0 config and rebooted.

when the system came up it appeared to read the file and I can see the connection listed as the default route, but then after a few seconds something comes in and changes the default to eth0. I'm not sure what, why, or how to prevent this from happening.

I don't have the multi-wan module installed as I thought I wouldn't need it for what I thought was a simple routing table entry.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

David

It is likely that your ppp0 is using DHCP. When it comes online and every time it renews its address it will apply its settings. This includes overwriting your default gateway.

Best to use multi wan which allows for BOTH gateways and manages their status. It is for this scenario and similar that the multiwan app was developed back in the Clarkconnect days.
