I have created a user and can connect via the webconfig login to see the user profile, but the user cannot connect via ssh (Permission denied, please try again.) nor even at the command line (Login incorrect). ssh server has password enabled.

No problem logging in as root in either ssh or command line.

I am a clearOS novice so apologies if I'm missing something obvious, but any guidance appreciated.

Another option is to change Login Shell from '/sbin/nologin' to '/bin/bash' in User settings (System > Accounts > Users).

EDIT: You will need to install the Shell Extension app from Marketplace (as Nick mentioned) before you are able to change the Login Shell in User Settings.

Search the marketplace for ssh. It looks like you want the Shell Extension app, otherwise ssh access is restricted to root only.
