Hi Guys, I was wondering if someone could give me a bit of advice please.

I have a COS6.7 (Community) setup which I now want to move across to COS7.2 (Business) and I have some questions (I have searched but haven’t found definitive answers to some things).

On the COS6.7 I have Zarafa Community (with the 3 free Outlook licences) installed before Tim’s app was available but using his instructions (that very, very long thread !!). This enabled me to use Outlook for 3 users and imap for the others.

1. Am I right in assuming that by moving to Zarafa Small Business I need to buy a licence for every user, even those that only need access to emails and nothing else via imap ?

2. As I still have 3 users that need to use Outlook (due to a specific in house purpose) does the Zarafa Small Business supplied by ClearOS still use the mapi connector for Outlook or is it now using just ActiveSync ?

3. Is it possible to backup the Zarafa mailstore (including attachments) from the Community version on the COS6.7 box and restore it all to the COS7.2 with Zarafa Small Business version ?

4. Finally, for now, am I right in thinking that I can backup the COS6.7 server using Configuration Backup and then restore it on the COS7.2 and basically everything that is configurable via the webconfig is backed up and then restored on the new system ? (I appreciate that any tweaking I have done I will have to repeat on the new server)

Many thanks in advance
Steve

    I can't answer any of that. I don't use Zarafa or MAPI/Outlook.

Many thanks for the replies Andy and Nick it is appreciated.

As the MAPI connector will be dropped (I appreciate that is beyond ClearOS control), I'm wondering what the benefit of having the Small Business version of Zarafa is then (apart from support). Does anyone know how ClearOS are going to go forward, i.e. using the Zarafa replacement Kopano or something else altogether like OpenXchange ?

    Cheers

I've done a config backup and restore from 6.x to 7.x. Check everything carefully. Interfaces do not get restored as they change therefore anything which uses the interface name is at risk. For me this is local firewall rules, DHCP configuration and possibly a few other things. You could untar the backup somewhere and grep it for your old interface names to get an idea. My OpenVPN certificates have come across OK so I assume all certificates have. This was my biggest fear.

I don't use Zarafa and as it is only for the family (who aren't aware of their passwords), I've migrated their mail across using imapsync.

To sync other data I've set up an rsync daemon on the 6.x box and I use rsync on the 7.x box to suck the data across.

I have not yet taken the box live yet but hope to do so later this month and I'm sure I'll hit other problems, largely with my own customisations (e.g. ddclient with the interface issue) and I'm truing to plan my way through

    Hi Steve,

I can answer a couple of you questions: -

    1. Zarafa Small Business does require a licence for every user; there a no free seats.

    2. The MAPI connector is still available, although you're likely aware that Zarafa is effectively dropping support for this shortly, so updates to Outlook (if you permit them) will break some of the groupware functionality.

    3. Ben Chambers created this howto for migrating Zarafa. I've not had the opportunity to try this as I'm mostly migrating Exchange to Zarafa. It looks straight forward enough, but if anyone has experience perhaps they could comment.

    https://www.clearos.com/resources/documentation/clearos/content:en_us:kb_howtos_upgrading_zarafa_6_to_7

    4. My understanding is that The ClearOS 7 Configuration Backup app supports ClearOS 6 backups including Windows Domain settings (IDs, SIDs and RIDs). Again, I've not tried this yet, but as some of my clients COS-6 installs are approaching 4 years I'll be needing to test this shortly.

Hope this helps, and I'd be really interested to hear how your migration goes.

    Cheers..... Andy
