So Im setting up the clearOS as a stand alone box on a home lan

Simply put I have ADSL broadband with a wireless router

How can I now get my clients to point to the clearOS for web filtering?

Im going to have clearOS running on my server as a VM. All i want to do is block urls and banned ips.

If you are aiming to just use ClearOS as a proxy/content filter, then, if you enable ClearOS as a non-transparent proxy you can point all your clients to ClearOS in their proxy settings. In your gateway you'd want to block http and httpd access to the internet apart from your proxy. I can' guarantee it will work but it may.

You may also have to set /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward to 1. If you do, post back for a permanent fix as this resets itself each time you reboot or, perhaps, restart networking.

As a standalone box i don't see how it would help you in your current situation, i might be wrong, but wouldnt you need to be running in Gateway mode? That way the filter/proxy can do what it's intended to?
