Does anybody know what could be causing Snortsam to take upwards of 10 minutes to load during boot? My system is pretty basic (256 mB RAM, 2.4 ghz cpu, 40 gig hd), but it used to launch IPCop in less than 5 minutes. ClearOS is taking more like 15, and most of that is stuck on loading Snortsam.

Can you go into any more detail about what kind of DNS problems? I'm kind of an amateur at this - how should I have the DNS set up? I currently just ClearOS configured with our domain controller address, and our ISP DNS addresses.

I'm at home at the moment, so I don't have access to the box, but I regularly check the swap report and it's never gotten very high at all (less than 10%).

DNS problems will also dramatically slowdown the loading of Snortsam (and several other services as well)...

Its likely you do not have enough RAM.. ClearOS provides many more services than a firewall and as such its hardware requirements are greater

Snortsam in itself is a tiny service so i'd be suprised if that was the sole cause of your delay. What happens if you run 'service snortsam restart' after boot, do you still get the delay?

Whats the output of 'free' (which will give a clue as to whether your system is swapping data out)?
