The title may be a little misleading, and since I truly don't know where to post this I figure I'll start here.

Lets begin with I control quite a few domains, some for clients, some for myself, most of my clients domains have 10 year purchases on them which will be relevant to my question here in a minute, however a few of mine were purchased for testing or other short term reason's.

That being said every single time I register a domain through the clear center and even though I choose to keep my registrant information private I get inundated with spam phone calls from every country under the sun regarding web & app design to SEO to the point this time it's border line harassment. This morning & this afternoon I blocked 37 phone numbers, ironically guess what I did Saturday ? I renewed my primary domain here at the clear center.

Guys please tell me this is not you and is TUCOWS, INC going the way of Twatter & Fakebook.

We don't sell our customer data to third parties. I'd leave the company if anyone in authority at ClearCenter gave me an order to collect data so that it could be sold to telemarketers. You would not believe how upsetting it is for Michael to be in an important meeting and get calls from marketers. He listens to their initial pitch and is kind to them when he rejects their calls and they don't make it easy for him with their pushy tactics. As a CEO he gets more than his fair share of calls and knows the plague that this is.

For me, I have to pick up the phone even when it is from a number I don't recognize because it could be a support call. We rely on communication and to have a majority (yes a majority) of our inbound calls to the Michael and to support phones come from marketers. Believe me, marketing as it is done by the world today is a plague on our society and we would never bring that intentionally on your house.

We are making steps to move off of using Tucows as our registrar for reasons other than this. If it is gmail, consider using ClearOS for mail. We should have even more options in the future. Thank you for your patience. Believe me, we are taking this concern seriously and a change is happening soon that fixes this.

I am still a bit lost at this privacy setting part. What is this about? I registered my domain through clearcenter and I recently renewed through clearcenter and never got contacted by spammers about that topic.

Ah OK. My domain was transferred in rather than registered through ClearCenter.

I wonder if there is a sort of race condition between when the domain is actually registered and when you get to activate the privacy setting. Perhaps someone is watching Tucows or some central domain registry (ICANN or whatever) and managing to pick off new domain data before the privacy flag is selected.

I'm starting to lean in the direction of gmail .. This problem for me started a few years ago when we needed that authorization code to authenticate the domain, I had ccrepair.info for a few years which was my primary domain, I build a new sever and since ccrepair was the host mail server it wanted to send the admin to the domain an email which was me to the machine that was not authenticated ( fun times ) I get that straightened out, so I thought I'll have all that info sent to a gmail account that I only use for things like this in the event my mail becomes undeliverable, that's when it really started, so when I did vilatam.com I still had ccrepair and vilatam was the virtual domain, once I killed ccrepair ( 9 months later ) I built this server from scratch and when it wanted the authentication, that code was sent to my gmail account and it was sort of seamless.

Last Saturday when I renewed shortly there after I start getting these in my gmail account .( see attachment )

    https://www.clearos.com/clearfoundation/social/community?controller=attachment&task=displayFile&tmpl=component&id=8811

So I changed the admin email address to my domains to my outlook account .. We'll see what happens I'm ready to spend $25 on a fictional domain and keep it parked just to see the outcome :)

Micheal I want to be very clear here. I am not blaming anyone especially you guys, I'm just trying to figure out how it's happening to prevent it from happening again, because one of the phone numbers I use is my personal cell phone which doesn't go through the business PBX greeting.. The attachment below is a small sample of the phone numbers I blocked this week.

Nick the privacy part where everything is redacted happens after you register at the clear center a window redirect to Tucows pops up and there you choose what to remain private or public . for the record the domain I did last Sat was vilatam.com. It's the primary domain I use here for my info website, mail & personal cloud services.

I've just had a look at my domain with ClearCenter. Where do you even make the setting to keep your information private? I know ClearCenter currently use Tucows for domains. Is it something you have to request through Tucows?

Please can you raise a ticket and they will have a look. The ticket will make sure it is not overlooked and will give you account name to investigate.
