Computers in my network can see Samba shares provided by other servers, such as RetroPie, but not by clearOS. For example, in my iMac, "retropie" is always visible under Shared in Finder's Sidebar. Whenever I need to access the retropie, all I need to do is to click on its name. While with clearOS, I have to press cmd-k then type the server's IP or hostname, e.g. smb://192.168.1.2. I know it's not a big deal, but I wish clearOS could be available like other servers.

So, is there any configuration I can do to force Samba in clearOS to announce itself over the network like others do?

Thank you.

"wins support = yes" is the "WINS Support" parameter in the Windows Networking Webconfig.

Note if you already have a WINS server on your network you may not want to enable this, instead pointing "WINS Server" to the IP address of your WINS server. Also you would not want to other two settings as the two WINS servers may start fighting it out to become the master. If ClearOS is the only WINS server, that is fine.

Thank you Nick. I ended up adding the following lines to smb.conf

    wins support = yes
    local master = yes
    preferred master = yes

Now the server appears in mac Finder and in windows Explorer.

Are your shares flagged as browseable and is the ClearOS Windows networking set to the same Workgroup/Domain as your clients?
