Hi All

I am thinking of replacing dnsmasq with bind for DNS and isc-dhcp for DHCP.

Has anyone here done a similar thing? Any advice on pitfalls etc.

Is it just a matter of removing dnsmasq and installing/configuring the other 2 packages?

Thanks

I use both bind and ISC-dhcpd on ClearOS so I can have master and slave synchronized servers for both dns and dynamic addresses. Where dnsmasq was installed I have left it disabled, on new installs rejected it. The only thing I can comment on is that you really need to know what you are doing with both - not packages for a beginner. I love them - so much more flexible...

There will be nothing in Webconfig to help you. I just use the command line and hand edit the files, but there are tools around, even a web interface for bind I believe - have a search. I hate using a GUI as you are restricted ti what a programmer thinks you should have, thus missing out on a lot of functionality.

    Hi Tony

Thanks. I have a fair amount of experience with them on other Linux flavours.

I presume that the GUI only configures dnsmasq and with bind and isc-dhcp it's command line?
