I've had the Marketplace App Plex Media Server running for a while and connected to my NAS.

I can use the web interface to play movies, tv & music, but I'm not able to connect via DLNA.

I haven't changed the default settings on the Plex server advanced DLNA.

For example. Both my Bose SoundLink/SoundTouch & VLC Player will show the Plex Media Server:PlexMedia in the UPnP but I can't connect. In VLC Player there is a yellow triangle with !. I can't find out what that is supposed to mean.

I'm sure I've missed some set-up step somewhere along the way.

What I should be checking?

    I tried Serviio but it wouldn't show up in the Bose SoundTouch app so I decided on Plex. But while Plex shows up in the SoundTouch app, it won't connect. And so the reason for the post.

    I've read a bunch of stuff on the Plex support forum but haven't found anything that helped investigate or fix the issue ... so far.

    I'd like to figure out why I can't connect but I don't know where to start to debug. Any suggestions or guidance welcome.

    Yeah indeed, but maybe you have to try just access you media via a network share like Nick said. What I should do just experiment a bit and pick the solution which works best for you.

    I have Kodi running on OSMC on a Raspberry Pi. I used to use DLNA to pick up content from Plex, but I can't remember why I moved away. Now I map a folder in OSMC to a Samba share on ClearOS then configure Kodi to get its files from the "local" folder as it is supposed to be more responsive and less resource intensive than using Kodi's built in Samba driver. I don't need any transcoding.

    My TV (LG) reads the Plex DLNA server natively without installing the Plex app on it.

    Okay, nice! I suppose everybody has his own ways / manners to watch their favourite movie or tv show. Their is another media app on the marketplace have you checked it? Not sure but maybe it has beter DLNA support..

    Yes, but I'd mostly use DLNA with player applications that support video/audio filters and subtitles control. These applications allow me for example to apply gamma correction or fix audio/subtitle synchronization. Currently, I directly access (smb) titles that need special treatment, so having them organized in a DLNA manner would be better.

    Okay, clear, but if you buy a cheap ChromeCast for example you'll get the whole Plex experience. :)

    For media devices without Plex clients but with DLNA support. Also, for player apps with features not available in Plex client, such as video/audio filters, subtitles control, etc. Anyway, the lack of DLNA is not a deal breaker for me, but since it is already available in the Plex server then it would be nice to have it working :)

    I don't use VLC. I just stream to my TV so I don't know how much effort I can put into this at the moment. Perhaps someone can post to whichever support VLC uses?

    I'd still love to know why server.my.lan:32400 works and not www.my.lan:32400 for Plex. More digging.

    For me, VLC for macOS never sees the server. When I look into its log, I find lines of the following:

    upnp warning: Could not download device description! Fetching data from http://10.100.1.1:49152/description.xml failed: UPNP_E_SOCKET_CONNECT

    I don't know that address in the log or where it comes from (my server is at 192.168.0.1). I tried to trace the source of that IP but could not find it any where in the VLC nor in the Plex Resources/Profiles files.

    If it is any consolation I am struggling as well. Its taken me ages to work out I updated my shortcut from server.whatever to www.whatever and it does not work on www.whatever which has me totally confused. Going back to server.whatever at last gives me the interface I'm used to.

    I've just tried VLC and it sees something the server Local Network > Universal Plug'n'Play, does not show anything more than the server on a single line, waits a bit and crashed, so I cant use it either! It works with my TV.

    I wonder if it is the Virtual Host set up from the Web Server app which is intercepting www? I'll need to investigate more.

    Thanks Nick. I have seen the Plex.tv resource and followed it when I did the set up. I think the only thing I changed on "Network" was to set/allow the local network to login without password. I defined the network as per the instructions ie. 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0, 192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0. The devices can see the Plex server in the list but can't access anything.
    I'll look at the Configure Plex Media Server link. There is likely something I've missed.
