I am having a weird issue that I can't figure out.

Recently my root password expired (didn't know it would do that) so I had to reset it to get into the Webconfig. Since then, I can log into most areas of the webconfig but not all. When I click on Dashboard, Accounts>Groups and Accounts>Users I get "Oops! Invalid Credentials. Clicking on anything else works as expected.

I am running ClearOS release 7.2.0 with Samba_Directory Beta and all system updates installed.

That's a known issue in Samba Directory. If you change the Administrators password, ClearOS is not able to lookup some of the extended user information in Samba LDAP. A lame bug... sorry.

Is there a way to bring it back or should I just restore a previous setup?

Is it normal for the root password to expire? I don't remember any password expiration settings but to be honest, I wasn't looking for them either.

If you set the Administrator back to the one used when you provisioned Samba Directory the first time, things should be back to normal. I don't think root/Administrator password can expire... Samba/Windows is a bit out of my league!

Dang. Tried setting it back but it didn't work. I wonder if I need to restart the server to make it take?

I changed the password through the user profile dialog. Would it have been better to drop down to the command line to do it?

Is there a bug filed for this that I can track?

    Thanks for the help!

Here's the issue in the tracker, and there's a suggested command line workaround. However, there's not much movement on the Samba Directory app... not much traction.

Thanks for the link to the bug tracker.

I'm still having an issue trying to get back to where I was however. Per the webconfig access instructions, I've been logging in as user "root". This was the password I was instructed to change. However, I now cannot change the password back to the original. I've tried using

    samba-tool user setpassword root

but I get an error about user not found. I've reset user "administrator" back to original but that doesn't regain the functionality either.

If I restore a configuration from before I reset the password, will that restore everything? Does the config backup store usernames and passwords?

I'm still trying to figure out how to restore user/group functionality. I am now getting a different error that is baffling.

    Ooops! Strong(er) authentication required

The only post that I can find that has a similar problem is

    https://www.clearos.com/clearfoundation/social/community/user-updates-from-ldap-replicate-not-working

but that is from 2010 so I'm not sure it's the same problem.

    I am completely stumped!
