I have installed ntfs-3g by:
yum --enablerepo=clearos-core install *ntfs*

Mount the disk:
ntfs-3g /dev/sdc1 /mnt/backup

This had been working for all of my ClearOS6 installations before.
Until today.

Any solution to this?
Thank you.

I unmounted my drive. Removed Ntfs-3g. Reinstalled from repositories. Remounted and am good to go. Bug appears fixed.

Have you tried grabbing the latest version of ntfs-3g from Tuxera and installing? (http://www.tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g-download/). I was having a similar issue on with an internal HW RAID drive, it would mount but was getting I/O errors trying to access anything and compiling and installing the newest version from their site worked for me. You'll need to remount the drive afterward, of course.

    We crossed...
If you read the whole thread you can find out how to install the RPMForge repository to enable you to install the required packages... I even gave a link to my web-site that tells you how... or search the web eg http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/RPMForge

The information is all there in http://www.clearfoundation.com/component/option,com_kunena/Itemid,232/catid,24/func,view/id,66229/limit,10/limitstart,10/#66264 - that should be more than enough help...

    Hello all,

I've exactly the same problem. I checked my updates and the last one has been installed :

    Nov 12 05:15:25 Updated app-clearcenter-core-1.6.6-1.v6.noarch
    Nov 13 04:47:20 Updated ntfs-3g-2014.2.15-6.el6.i686
    Nov 15 05:01:21 Updated iscsi-initiator-utils-6.2.0.873-13.el6.i686
    Nov 19 03:51:19 Updated ntfs-3g-2014.2.15-7.el6.i686

But it's still impossible to access the mounted drive :

    [root@srv-cos drives]# cd kwsa
    -bash: cd: kwsa: Input/output error

do you have an idea on what to do ?

Thanks to all for your help

    Dear Tony,
Managed to install fuse-ntfs-3g and successfully mounted an ntfs disk.
    This is what I've done:

    Remove ntfs-3g then install fuse-ntfs-3g:

    # yum remove ntfs-3g:

    Install “fuse” and “wget”

    # yum --enablerepo=clearos-core install fuse wget

    Install rpmforge:

    # cd /tmp
    # wget http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el6/en/x86_64/rpmforge/RPMS/rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el6.rf.x86_64.rpm
    # yum install rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el6.rf.x86_64.rpm

To avoid conflicts between various repositories:

edit "/etc/yum.repos.d/rpmforge.repo" and change all "enabled = 1" lines to "enabled = 0"

    Finally, install fuse-ntfs-3g:

    # yum --enablerepo=rpmforge install *fuse-ntfs-3g*

    Completed!

Thank you so much for your help.

From your append I think you may have a 64 bit system - it's not really clear... what follow assumes you have...

I mentioned I used a 32-bit system to install and assumed that you would change the architecture names if you had a 64-bit system. So I did this on my 64-bit backup system...

    1) installed the rpmforge rpm as per the instructions on my web-site. I then edited "/etc/yum.repos.d/rpmforge.repo" to ensure the repo is not enabled by default...

    then installed the program...

    [root@violetta ~]# yum --enablerepo=rpmforge install fuse-ntfs-3g.x86_64

Thanks Tyler for that - don't normally have ntfs-3g installed on ClearOS so had no yum history to check for an update. My fedora ntfs-3g is still the older version, so will make sure it isn't updated!

I'm in the same boat here.

An update to ntfs-3g happened as below:

    Nov 13 02:40:16 Updated ntfs-3g-2014.2.15-6.el6.i686

I'm OK exploring fuse option as Tony recommends but think this update has a widespread issue.

    Dear Tony,

I really given up hope with ntfs-3g on clearos6.
5 of my installations, clearos6.5, all ntfs external usb flash drive stopped working.
Had to fdisk and mkfs all of them into ext format.
Thank you so much for your help.
    Will never use ntfs anymore.
    Appreciate it!

Thanks for the code tags - appreciated...
from your output I see you have a Seagate SRD00F2 disk. I also have one, but it is normally attached to my Fedora Workstation and mounted using ntfs-3g. Moving the SRD00F2 to ClearOS version 6.x I then experienced the same problem as you now have :-(
    exact same error output...

Since it works on Fedora with a different version of ntfs-3g, the ntfs-3g version on ClearsOS became a suspect. So ntfs-3g was removed using yum. As I had previously added the rpmforge repository, I decided to try fuse-ntfs, so ran the command "yum --enablerepo=rpmforge install fuse-ntfs-3g.i686". This installed the fuse-2.8.3-4.el6.i686 and fuse-ntfs-3g-2013.1.13-2.el6.rf.i686 rpms (I have 32-bit system). Now I was able to mount and access the Seagate expansion drive without error.

Since the external drives I normally use with ClearOS are formatted ext3 - I was unaware of this until now...

If you want to emulate what I did then you can see instructions at http://danda.poweredbyclear.com/master-frame-sargv6.html on how to add the RPMForge repository, or search the web. Make sure to heed the advice about not enabling the repo by default.
If you go this route the decision and risk is yours, not mine. I only did limited testing... but encountered no errors while doing so. Wonder if there was a recent update to ntfs-3g or another rpm that caused this probem, something for you to research...

Allan - can you please edit your post to use code tags as I requested. If you look at the panel just above where you type when appending, you will see another panel called Boardcode: on the left; and a row of icons. Hint: hover your mouse over the third icon from the right counting right to left! Also, Nick Howitt has posed before showing "how-to" several times if you care to search..
This request is not me playing games... My eyes are are no longer the best and I wiill no longer struggle and plough through many lines of text which could be displayed more elegantly with a larger font, greater line spacing, properly formatted and with a non-proportional font. Look at the difference between my post and yours...

    Couple or so items...

Seagate do not support their drives on Linux... http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/208751en?language=en_US#12

Will the drive work with Linux?

Seagate Expansion Desktop and/or Seagate Extended Portable drives should function like any other USB drive connected to a Linux-based computer. However, this practice is not supported by Seagate.

Seagate's Free Agent series of drives have an annoying tendency to spin themselves down under linux, causing linux to give up on the drive and disconnect the device...
    see for example :- http://alienghic.livejournal.com/382903.html

Some ASMEDIA 1042 USB 3.0 PCI-E addon cards are very unreliable causing strange system problems and ports dying...

Please show the relevant usb drive mount section only of dmesg output, as Ben suggested, when you plug-in your drive.
Please run "lsusb -v | grep -A27 Seagate" and show the output... Install the usbutils rpm if you do not have the lsusb command
and please use code tags... example follows (not the drive initially mentioned):-

    dmesg extract

Dear Tony, Thank you. As you've suggested, I've tried and the usb drive was working as per normal in windows.

I've umount a working usb drive from server B and try it on server A (the first one one that discovered ntfs error), same ntfs error.

Then when I plug this usb drive back to server B, the same ntfs error happened to server B also.

Now I have 2 clearOS6 servers cannot mount ntfs.

    Very strange.
    Any advise from the administrators?

    Thank you.

Judging by the messages this is an external Seagate Expansion drive. Those files look to be the same names as on mine. If so, since this is ntfs, can you connect the external drive to a Windows machine to check the file system hasn't been corrupted? Also, I have found occasionally it will refuse to mount properly - though it appears to be mounted. This has always been resolved so far by an unmount followed by moving the USB connection to another USB 3 port where it then mounts correctly. This is a 2TB USB 3 drive...

    Dear Ben,

    When I mount:
    ntfs-3g /dev/sdc1 /mnt/backup

    [root@entserver ~]# cd /mnt/backup
    [root@entserver backup]# ls
ls: cannot access Autorun.inf: Input/output error
ls: cannot access home: Input/output error
ls: cannot access Seagate: Input/output error
ls: cannot access SeagateExpansion.ico: Input/output error
ls: cannot access Setup.exe: Input/output error
ls: cannot access var: Input/output error
    Autorun.inf home Seagate SeagateExpansion.ico Setup.exe var

When I umount, and attempt to use mount -a

    [root@entserver mnt]# umount /mnt/backup
    [root@entserver mnt]# mount -a
    mount: unknown filesystem type 'ntfs'

Thank you for your help Ben.

What errors are you seeing? Anything in dmesg after you try and mount it?
