I installed a clear os from a customer a year ago with a very basic configuration, gateway mode and dhcp and dns management (it takes the internet connection from the modem and creates a second network for the computers).
The server with windows server 2008 r2 worked perfectly until two weeks ago, in the server is installed a management program that uses MS SQL, where suddenly it has slowed down in an embarrassing way.
After several attempts we decided to change SWITCH and server, going from an old Fujitsu to a tenth generation HP. After a while, MS SQL slows down again, especially when the management works on multiple instances (invoices).
The software house blames the firewall, saying that proxa the network, that the iis server is not working properly etc etc (yesterday I spent an hour checking everything, removing the superfluous, and everything worked perfectly, with the nslookup command I received the correct configuration), effectively excluding the firewall it would seem to work perfectly ms sql in the server (yesterday the management software was also blocked in the server locally but for the programmer the fault was always mine) but I would like to make him work a day.
What do you advise me to do? I re-create the virtual firewall machine and start all over again? Do I try to hear other installers of management software?

Are you running any filtration on the firewall such as the Proxy/Content filter?

Run sql profiler on the server and track any slow running queries. It might be improper index.
I've had to build custom indexes to speed up slow queries.

Also check the version of SQL your running. I know people who switch from SQL Enterprise to standard, only find out that their productivity slowed down. The main deference is the granularity of table level and row level locking. If your using the free edition of MS SQL, you have a 10GB database limit, and a 1G memory limit.

Also make sure your active directory is healthy. If the sql server has a slow connection to the Activate directory controller, of the AD is slow, your connectivity with slow down dramatically.
