Dear ClearOS community,

I am running ClearOS 7.8 Business on a dedicated server and want to move it to a ESXI machine. I do not intend to use the converter, because I simply want to start the server from ESXI and want to assign the current sata controller on the mainboard to the VM and run from the same hard drives I am running ClearOS from currently. I find many tutorials how to do that with Windows machines, but rarely with Linux.

Should this work as I described? How about the ClearOS subscription, will this get invalidated, because of hardware change?

Thank you for the input.

Best wishes,

Robert

I can't comment on ESXi as I've never used it and I've never moved a physical machine to a VM.

Your subscription should be fine as it is hardware independent. If the worst comes to the worst and you install again, you just register the new machine as a Reinstall/Upgrade.
