Hi

Hope this is the right place to post. We are moving a site that has a ClearOS firewall configured on a HP ProLiant server. They are moving location and also changing their WAN link provider. We have not dealt with ClearOS before and have only the login details for the console screen.

We can see that there is one WAN link with relevant details on for the current WAN provider (LAN IP - Sub Net - GW) details

We would like to be in a position that we know what to change on this when it is switched off, relocated and switched back on. Looking at the address we have noted the following (example ip used)

Interface - eth4
Role - External
Connection Type - Static
IP Address - 213.100.99.98
Netmask - 255.255.255.248
Gateway - 213.100.99.97

So we can see that the IP address is set here, and would be changed to a new IP address in relation to the new provider. The Gateway address would be provided from the new router/provider and would be on same LAN as IP address (like it is currently) Netmask to stay the same.

Once changed, we would like to know if this is all that is needed to allow for internet access. There are other subnets internally as follows.
eth1 - LAN - Static - 10.7.1.1
eth2 - External - Static - 10.2.1.3
eth3 - External - Static - 10.3.1.133

Do these networks require any changes or are all of the connections and routing completed through the interface name. How do we check the different interaction between networks. There are no hardware changes planned, simply an external provider change. DNS services will remain the same as now.

We can see that there is a graphic interface and command line but not much detail on either

The version installed is ClearOS Professional 6.9.0

Would really appreciate some clarification from an experienced ClearOS contact.

Changing the IP address for the external provider should be trivial. If you have access to the console screen then you should also be able to access it from the Web-based Configuration tool, Webconfig. For example, this should work if you are connected on the Internal lan:

    https://10.7.1.1:81

From here you would log into the box with the same credentials that you use for the graphical console.

I am a bit confused by your eth2 and eth3 setup. Here you have them designated as 'External', same as your ISP connection. ClearOS has support for MultiWAN so it is entirely possible that you have 3 ISPs and that 1 is using a public IP address and the other two are behind NAT. That would explain the 'External' designation. Double-check it just to be sure.

As for DNS, most providers only allow DNS queries from their own subnets. So if you are changing a provider and the existing DNS entry is one of theirs then you may have an invalid configuration. If you are using a neutral DNS provider, like 8.8.8.8, then you don't need to worry about it.
