Just to see if there was any difference between my earlier installs and the latest 7.4 just upgraded the last of the Atoms here from 6.9 to 7.x. As this last machine had plenty of free un-partitioned disk space decided to make this a dual boot 6.x/7.s system...

System - Motherboard Intel D945GCLF2 with Intel Atom 330
Screen - HP 1502 LCD 4:3 1024x768 native resolution
Downloaded the latest 7.4 and created the USB drive using dd

[root@yenny ClearOS7]# dd if=ClearOS-DVD-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdb

Booted from the USB drive, selected a normal graphical install - OK. Selected do do my own custom partitioning with standard partitions - created the new partitions within the free space and started the install... Anti-climax - install proceeded normally - finished - reboot and the Network Console displayed correctly indicating the address for a web browser to initiate the wizard to complete the installation. Completed the wizard and re-booted... all OK.

Now when the system boots can just hit any key at the appropriate time and select between 6.x or 7.x on the menu and which kernel to use...

So I got fed up.. I am going to work on installing ClearOS on a VM in XenServer..

Are you able to see the screen long enough to select the middle (if remember correctly) option that says something like"Test this media and Install"? Did you run this to check the USB image integrity? OK?

Alternatively, can you move the disk and install on another machine, then move the disk back? This is usually successful provided you have standard disk controllers in each machine. Then the only thing that will need sorting are the NIC addresses..

On one machine (not an Atom) had to remove the "nomodeset" option from the " kernel /vmlinuz....." line so the display could change to graphics mode rather than going blank...

Currently 3 of my 4 Atoms are on 7.4 - the last needs to be upgraded from 6.9... wonder what is different with yours?

One last thought - had problems with the two Atom Intel motherboards until the BIOS was upgraded to the latest - though the problems were nothing to do with the display. You are at the latest level?

EDIT: Brian - another thought... When I installed 7.x pretty sure that was prior to 7.4 and probably used the install media for 7.2 or 7.3 - wonder if any pertinent changes have been made since then to the ISO?

So I did what you suggested with the text mode. I used Win 32 Disk Imager. The installer boots but it gets to a certain part then just stops and the screen goes blank.. I am going to attach a video so you can see what I am experiencing. This time under text I got as far as it identifying the NIC's then it stops..

Your D2500 should be very similar to my D2700, just a little slower - so the CPU should not be a problem (typo in my append - now fixed).
As my Atom systems had been around for ever, they all had DVDs - so that's the install medium that was used here... Sounds like you are using Windows to create the bootable USB - never done that, though it should work...

Can you create a "live" USB system from a different linux distribution and see if that boots (a good test in itself) - then use that to "dd" the ClearOS ISO? Have done USB installs on other boards and used nothing but dd using linux to copy the downloaded ISO to the USB thumb drive... When you say "everything shuts down" - do you mean the system powers down - or that it becomes unresponsive with no signs of activity...

In your BIOS what options do you have for the drive mode. My Intel D945GCLF2 board for the Atom 330 has 'native' or 'legacy' - it is set for 'native'. If you have the option for AHCI - use that if not already doing so...

Two other suggestions...
1. Can you install on another motherboard and move across to the Atom...
2. What happens if you use "text" mode... tedious, but works when your display does not support the graphics mode the install changes to do - have had to do this... Instructions follow :-

When you select "Install ClearOS" in the menu option, press the tab key, add "text" (no quotes) to the end of any existing installer command line arguments and then press the return key.

The mobo is Intel D2500CCE Atom D2500 and drive is a 60G Corsair SSD sata drive. I checked my Atom has a 64bit instruction set. I just don’t get why I keep making usb installs and they keep failing. There is no reasoning why this keeps happening. I’m not a novice. I’ve been using Linux since the 90’s. This just baffles me. I am really interested in the UPNP feature for my ps4 and my sons xbox. I think it might just do what’s I want.

Is it a recent atom board or an old one you have lying around? Some of the older boards were not 64-bit so won't work with ClearOS7. There is a 32-bit version of ClearOS 6 but that hits EoL around the end of the year.
