I was running Clearos 7 i installed 2 yrs ago. My harddrive failed so I replaced it and downloaded the lastest clearos from the downloads page and wrote it to usb with dd. When I tried to install it it fails and says pane is dead and gives an error: Glib.Error g-io-error-quark: timeout. I have attached a few photos. The desktop is an i5 6400 with 16gb ddr4 and was running fine before. Any help would be appreciated.

ClearOS MUST have at least one NIC that it can see in order for it to install. The older the ISO, the less likely it can install. There is a way to ask the installer to allow you to load a 3rd party NIC driver but in general, it is easier just to add a NIC, complete the install, and then use that NIC to help you onboard the drivers for your other NIC. The former method is useful if you have a bunch of computers that you are installing and you need a standardized onboarding process. The latter is best for one-off installations.

I would highly recommend using the 7.4 ISO to perform your install and use an additional NIC.

The bootloader configuration error can happen for a number of reasons. Without knowing more about your hard disk setup, it is hard to say why that happened.

I finally got back to this. I was able to install windows 10 without problem. I do not know if it is suppressing pcie errors, but all the ethernet ports are working. Strange. anyway for this particular installation I have decided to replace the pc with a network appliance device and repurpose the pc.

The disk will not spin at all anymore. Either the motor died or the controller card caused it. That makes me wonder if there was some sort of power surge although It was on a ups with a surge protector. I did once have lightning hit my house and blow through all the surge protectors and kill a couple machines. Anyway I am going to try to install windows, but that will have to wait until tomorrow. I am thinking maybe something failed in the uefi becuase I can see from the command line al the files are installed, Just not in the boot sector will not write.

Perhaps some hardware is starting to fail - power supply or memory going bad for example... Does a trial install of another OS succeed or fail - e.g. Windows or Desktop version of Fedora? Fails? run memory tests for a few hours... substitute another Power supply etc. What is the failure mode of the original disk drive...

It got all the way to the end of the install then "Failed to Write Bootloader Configuation Error". I am now rolling back one more and installing 7.1.

    I've deleted you extra posts.

You are showing a lot of pcieport errors. Are you sure your system is healthy? Device ID 8086:a116 is a 100 Series/C230 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port #7. I don't know if it means the hub is throwing the error or if a connected device is. Do you have any PCI-E cards in the server? Can you try moving them to a different port or temporarily removing it/them completely.

Yes I did verify the checksum. I have a guess there is some incompatibility introduced in the newer version. I tried looking for an earlier version to install but there is none all earlier iso images are gone.

Are there any partitions created on your new hd? You could try something like a GParted Live iso and create a partition on your new hd that COS could then write to during the install.

I’m no wizard, but just a couple thoughts. Did you verify your ClearOS iso download using a checksum? Read this
Does your desktop PC have a cd or dvd? If so, have you tried burning the iso and installing from this?
