Try OpenLDAP. Then, if necessary (and I can't remember because I did mine so long ago), install Windows Networking. I suspect the OpenLDAP option will also install Samba3.

Ok, i reinstalled three times now! I selected Server - File - Windows Networking (Samba) and am NOT presented with the configuration UI. What is presented in the window is "Account Manager Configuration" :
    1) OpenLDAP
    2) Samba (which is samba4, and i frigin selected it, grr. DON'T PICK THIS PEOPLE)
    3) Windows Server Active Directory (which is not available in the free version)

So how do i get my samba UI????

Uninstalling apps in Linux is fraught with danger. If you use yum it will always remove all dependencies. This is lethal. For example lots of packages need the gcc compiler. If you remove one package which needs the compiler, then all packages which use the compiler will be removed. This will destroy your system. The same goes for LDAP. Yum is the RHEL, CentOS and ClearOS package manager.

Changing the underlying authentication store (LDAP/Samba4) is also fraught with difficulty. Passwords are stored in encrypted form. How do you decrypt them from one store to encrypt them in another? The whole point of encryption is to secure things from prying eyes. Also UID stuff from Windoze domains is stored there. I've no idea how this would convert, but as it is very hard to migrate the network when replacing a server with a new server I'd guess it is very difficult - I think it is recommended that all LAN PCs get joined to a new domain rather than keep going with the old domain.

I think you're stuck with samba4 now as it will probably have taken over user and group management from LDAP, but I don't know for sure. I think I've seen here that once you've made your choice between samba3 and samba4 that is it and there is no way back apart from a complete re-installation.

.... then why use Samba 4 which is only in beta with ClearOS? Stick with Samba 3.x. and LDAP.
