I am having this thought of using ClearOS as our firewall together with our old unit of Fortigate in our small network.
The Fortigate is mainly use for VPN to Main office which is using Fortigate intensively.
I would like to use ClearOS to help me manage may network such as web filtering and simple reports.
Could I install ClearOS 6 in a computer and put it behind the Fortigate firewall?
Now our network map is like this:
ISP Modem<=>Fortigate<=>switch<=>users
I wonder if I can put map it like this:
ISP Modem<=>Fortigate<=>ClearOS 6 <=> switch<=>users

Hi Sora,
Yes you can construct your network like that in your new Network Map. I have done that quite easily without any issues. You could even remove the Fortigate firewall completely and let the ClearOS server do everything if so desired.

That's awesome.
The Fortigate firewall is a must system tunnelling and VPN to other office.
I am worry if it is going to effect our system tunnelling if I apply the "ISP Modem<=>Fortigate<=>ClearOS 6 <=> switch<=>users" setup.
Probably I can create 2 gateways, cascade the Fortigate and ClearOS same layer.
I am wondering if there is ClearOS5.2 64 bits. I try to find it but only 32 bits available. -

The 64bit release should be somewhere, I have used it before, just not sure where it is now. -

5.2 is 32-bit only. To use more than 4GB of memory you had to install the PAE kernel as well. 6.x has both 32-bit and 64-bit versions and the 32-bit version comes with the PAE extensions already compiled into the kernel. The 4GB memory limitation is not an issue at all with 64-bit installations. -

James is correct, my clear box has 2 IPSEC site to site tunnels and open vpn so I can remote into the system when I'm on the road, do yourself a favor and dump the Fortigate, your life will become allot easier
