Nick if you would read and understand the post that would be great !

the problem is NOT using a FTP client on your PC or Mac but the problem lies in HOW the FTP works

Problem being that Wordpress does NOT use a 'standard' client and has no way of walking through trees on a site like a human

what it wants is the URL , go figure , a user name and a password

and when something as simple as this fails ... and when you do talk to a developer on the phone and he does have a fix , and says I will look for your post and then post the fix to this

and also says go to this forum .... I did offer to pay for support if this can get fixed ( as he said he would post the work around)

so again this is for WP not a USER to log into my system and do things ( I have people that do understand how to work a computer that have sites on my sever) but this is for a person who just wants a WP site ....

I do thank you for the help you have given , but it has done nothing to help fix the problem

and to top it off if you try and use the WP plugin its broken and no longer supported ( at least I could not find any info on there site for support or even the plugin) I would guess this is because of the way Clear OS handles FTP

maybe I will just try and install a FTP client from the shell and see if this will fix the FTP problem

Sorry, but that is not correct. You log in with a normal username who is in the ftp_users group. This lands you in the flexshare root (/var/flexshare/shares). From there you can see all flexshares and all websites set up through the webconfig. You can only access the flexshare folders which have been set up with FTP access if you are a member of the correct group for the flexshare. It is a similar story with the Web Site folders. You can access them if you have enabled FTP Upload and you are a member of the group allocated to the web site.

If you go out of your root folder you you cannot get back into it. I'm sure that is fixable as well, but I don't often use ftp so I am in no rush.

If your set up does not work similar to this then you are doing something wrong or have changed something incorrectly. I know it is working as I've just been through it to check. I have been using the WinSCP client with the FTP protocol to port 21.

If you check from your LAN and your server is your gateway, then the firewall should not come into it. For a start I suggest you test from your LAN.

Please also be aware that, although you may have paid for the software, you have not paid for support or you would not be here. The forum is a self-help forum where users try to help each other. If you know information that we don't, it would be great if you'd share it. You've been lucky as you've had Dave, one of the senior developers, posting to help you. If you choose to criticize me for providing no help then I am not sure how you can expect support.

ok this is getting to be a pain more then anything , I want wordpress to work with the OS !!!!

I can FTP into the site now ( user name HAS to be the same as domain name ! to get to your section of the website

thats fine ... dont relly care about that .. yet when I am in WP and try to download via FTP even with the right info I get errors FAIL TO CONNECT TO FTP SERVER www.crdretail.com:21

yes my firewall rules are correct ,

this seems to be a nice OS , I like the interface and how its simple to use , but I paid for this software and its not working the way it should !!!

and the lack of help ... will very unhappy , that something that should be as simple as a FTP problem is not being delt with

( as a side note when I did speak to some on , was a known problem and I shall send you the work around as soon as I see your post ... you have seen my post , posted on my post yet no help whats so ever )

I don't see why Filzilla is even mentioning TLS in the logs unless it is trying an ftps connection, in which case it shouldn't use port 21. Just do a basic ftp connection to port 21. No need to specify a directory if you're using ftp as opposed to ftps. Personally I use WinSCP and I was using it yesterday on both ports 21 and 2121 for testing and it worked just with user/pass with a basic FTP set up.

Are you saying you have it working from the command line? If not, can you try a new user that has never been set up with useradd?

If your client is not making contact with ClearOS on port 21 do you have the firewall in the way? You should immediately see logging in /var/log/messages from the proftpd process.

I can see something if I do ftp://192.168.1.98/crd1 ( new have flexshare install )

Still does not solve the basic problem with WP

    " Richard,

There are two types encrypted FTP....FTP/S and SFTP. ClearOS only has FTP/S and not SFTP. Repeatedly you are using SFTP to try and make a connection. That is largely your issue.

If using Filezilla, make sure that this is setup this way:

    http://www.daveloper.net/tests/ftp-filezilla1.png
    http://www.daveloper.net/tests/ftp-filezilla2.png

You need to specify the directory on the second image. The user must be a member of the group that has permissions to the flexshare.

On the firewall, make sure to open up both FTP and Passive FTP services."

    Good afternoon Dave

I dont have flexshare running , I can do everything IO want to do via roto log in via Sftp that works fine for me

this is the problem we talked about with WP figured I would just start with getting the use to log in via noraml FTP , if that worked then could work on the WP problem

I have not see any one look at my WP post so I started this one ,

this is getting to be a little upsetting , love that every the else seems to work with no problems but FTP if we could load in another FTP server that would be great , but I dont know if we can with your ver

so any and all help would be great you should still have my Email address

If you are running the Attack Detector app you could have lockex yourself out. If so, check its documentation and perhaps whitelist the PC or LAN.

Please give more clues? Perhaps logs or screen shots. Have a look for proftpd entries in /var/log/messages and anything in Filezilla. Have you removed your useradd user?

Since we are talking about FTP, please try with the FTP protocol on port 21 and not SFTP on port 22.

user has FTP access , no problem there , but still cant connect via FTP , ROOT has no problem , the adduser has no problem , just the users made in the control panel have access problems

see snips , CRD error is user made via portal and CMRK is made via command line

so why does command line work and portal not work ?

    attached is CRD user

Get rid of the user added with useradd. If you created files or folders for him, you will need to reassign them to the UID that the LDAP user (Webconfig created user) has

In the Webconfig Users make sure the user has FTP Server User enabled in App Policies.

    [edit]
.... and belongs to the relevant Group for the Web Server.

I have done whats in the docs , still fails , there is a problem with something

yet when I adduser it works fine

I cant FTP in with the adduser , but the user added with group via the interface ... so something has gone wrong and I cant find any where in the docs to point either where I have gone wrong or the system has a problem

so just saying look at the docs is not of much help , as thats where I start on a new OS , only think I did not learn is that on reboot the user from addusr would be lost

No bug as far as I know. Check out the Users and Web Site documentation, and avoid adding users at the command line as you'll lose them on reboot.
