I'm interested in Docker on ClearOS or ClearVM. I tinkered a bit with the docker-app which comes with ClearGLASS but I'm interested in just a Docker management app. Can anybody tell me the status?

I had a small mail conversation with Peter (developer of ClearOS) and I have permission to share this with ClearOS community.

The new ClearGLASS product uses Docker (20+ containers!) on ClearOS, so we have learned quite a bit during the development process. There are quite a few challenges with Docker in a multi-homed/gateway environment, so we'll see what happens. We might have to split the ClearOS product into two:

    - ClearOS Gateway
    - ClearOS Server <-- Docker lives here

No sign of RHEL 8, but we have heard rumours that it will be early 2019. I'm not sure if that's the beta or final release target. It can't be too far out though... RHEL 7 was released 4 years ago.

In my opinion this really awesome news. I use Docker for over more as 1-2 years and it's real cool technology.

You mean that Peter is using the latest Docker community edition? If so that is good news!

Okay, so ClearOS is going to support Docker. Very good news! I suppose this is coming as a app or is it heavily integrated into ClearOS?

How far away is RHEL 8? Is there already a alpha? How long will it take if RHEL 8 is released to release ClearOS 8?

With the release of Docker it means that I can come back to ClearOS. Finally I can rebuild my unRAID server to a ClearOS server again. I always experienced ClearOS as a very stable server.

I'm getting excited.., maybe I have to spam Peter with the question how it's going. :)

I am not aware of a docker management app. What are you looking for from one? I think even now the tie in to ClearOS is complex. As an example, if you are in the webconfig ClearGLASS page you will not succeed in stopping docker from the command line - or, at least, docker will automatically restart which seems a somewhat different approach than what you might expect. Peter did explain why. Something to do that you could not show the the ClearGLASS status without docker running.

BTW, in order to solve a similar problem to what I was seeing with ClearGLASS not starting properly, I believe Peter upgraded successfully to Docker CE and it solved his problem. I fixed mine by moving the docker folder onto a partition with the required option set in the filesystem.
